Brent Amaker and the Rodeo’s “Please Stand By” out soon!
Formed in late 2005 by exiles from various rock bands, Brent Amaker and the Rodeo hail from Seattle, Washington where it’s not always cool to be a cowboy. Brent Amaker and the Rodeo have spent the last three years playing club and festival dates, and making radio appearances across the US, Canada, and Europe in support of their 2006 self titled release, 2008′s “Howdy Do!”(Gravewax Records), and 2010′s “Please Stand By.”
The Rodeo have gained a reputation for their raucous, whiskey-infused shows which provides the basis for a comic book currently in production as well as numerous blogs, videos, and tweets available on the band’s myspace page. A growing number of fans (called the B.A.R Brigade) come to shows emulating the Rodeo’s distinct style. Dressed in black from head-to-toe, the Rodeo offers up original country music classics a la Johnny Cash but delivered in the spirit of Devo, David Bowie and many others who still believe that a live show should be, well a show.
B.A.R. received national exposure on the Showtime series “Californication” where their song “You Call Me the Devil” was selected for inclusion on the Season Two soundtrack and have made appearances at music festivals around the world including Popkomm Festival in Berlin and CMJ in New York City. You can also find them performing in the indie “slasher” feature film “Punch” directed by Jay Cynik who also directed the Rodeo’s video for “I’m the Man Who Writes the Country Hits.” (photo by Chase Jarvis)
