Marc Olsen’s latest album out this fall on Spark & Shine
Seattle singer-songwriter Marc Olsen is hard to pigeonhole or easily classify. Maybe that’s because Marc has followed some unlikely, but interesting musical forks-in-the-road of his career. He made his mark as the singer-guitarist of Sage and did a brief stint in the seminal Sky Cries Mary as guitarist between Sage records. Marc’s virtuosity as a player and composer were in full display in the complex, proggy rock of Sage. Having established himself as a unique voice in Northwest music, Marc has recorded three solo records that trade Sage’s raw energy for the emotional depth and texture that have become his trademark.
It’s no wonder that Marc’s talents have been in demand both in the studio and on stage. He has added his guitar to several NW albums and toured as a guitarist for Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees, Queens of the Stone Age). He is also a natural fit for soundtrack work and he composed the primary score and the bulk of the music for 1998′s “Under Heaven”. On that soundtrack Marc appeared alongside Lanegan, Built to Spill and Cat Power. Sage songs were featured in the 90′s films “The Maker” and “Phoenix”and appeared on soundtracks with contemporaries The Eels, Elliot Smith and Morphine.
Marc’s solo work has been compared to the likes of Neil Young and Elliot Smith, such comparisons not only highlight Marc’s unique voice and his musicality, but they underscore the quality of his songwriting. Spark & Shine is pleased to announce that we will release Marc Olsen’s fourth solo album this fall. Stay tuned for more details!
